Neuropsychotherapy & Life Coaching

The purpose of psychotherapy is to help you become more aware of, and therefore able to change, patterns of thinking and behavior that are not working for us. My particular approach reflects my understanding of neuropsychology (which is why it’s called neuropsychotherapy) – how the brain works, as well as my understanding of how your particular brain works (your ThinkPrint.) It also incorporates insights from Buddhist philosophy, as I have found it to be consistent with modern neuroscience, as well as tools from the ancient practice of mindfulness.

We have to start from where we are, and begin to look at things from different angles, in order to change our understanding and illuminate choices that we did not realize we had. It is possible to change, and to change dramatically. To let go of the patterns and beliefs that are not working for us and to learn a different way of understanding things, of reacting to people and events, and to change the soundtrack of our mind to be less worrisome, less angry, less regretful. It takes time and it takes effort. But it is enormously rewarding. In the words of a client of mine several years after she completed her work with me – “I am overwhelmed with gratitude.” And hearing this, I was overwhelmed with joy.

It is important to have a therapist with who you have “chemistry.” The interaction has to feel right. You should leave feeling better, or if not necessarily better right away at least a bit more hopeful, carrying with you something to contemplate. When searching for a psychotherapist, it is good to have a consultation meeting first, to see if it is a good match.

Adults, Couples, Parents

I work with adults of all ages, and especially well with young adults who are finding their way. With couples it is very helpful to have a person to help each of you to hear what the other is trying to say, and to better express what you are feeling. I don’t do therapy directly with children, as it is a very different process and skill, but rather work with parents to help them understand and help their child.
